Why it sticks

A ritual that outlasts three weeks.

Team-building runs out of steam because nothing follows it. A ranking does follow: there is always a rematch to play tomorrow.

    A reason to play again tomorrow

    Ten minutes of table football a day does more for a team than a full offsite, as long as yesterday's game still counts. That is all the ranking does: it gives the previous game a sequel.

    A new hire welcomed in one game

    They join the room from the link, play their first match and are ranked the same day. That is a conversation with three people they would not have met for two months.

    An internal tournament set up in two minutes

    Single elimination, double elimination, round robin or groups then a final bracket: pick the format, seed by Elo or at random, and the bracket fills itself in as the scores come in.

    One room per site, or one for everyone

    Both work, with a single account per person. Every room keeps its own ranking, so nobody has to choose between their floor's championship and the company one.

Rolling it out

Live before the coffee is cold.

Nothing to provision, nothing to get approved, nothing to install on anyone's machine. The real work is four steps, and whoever creates the room does them once.

  1. Create the room in the team's nameA name, and the sports you actually have on hand: the catalogue is enabled table by table, so there is no point opening pool if nobody has one.
  2. Make it private and share the linkThe room becomes invisible to everyone outside it. The invite link goes in the company Slack or Teams channel, and gets revoked the day it has travelled far enough.
  3. Everyone opens the app on their phoneA web page, nothing to download. Anyone who wants to can add it to their home screen; it then opens full screen, without going through a store.
  4. Run a tournament to get things goingThe first Friday of the month is enough. A bracket to follow live pulls in the people who had not touched the table yet.

What does it cost a company?

Nothing. The room, the members, the tournaments and the history are free, with no tier and no quota. There is no enterprise plan to negotiate and nothing to route through procurement.

Does IT have to install anything?

No. Ryvaals opens in the browser and can be added to a phone's home screen by anyone who wants to. No software to deploy, no accounts to provision, no access to the internal network.

Do employees have to use their work email?

No, everyone signs up with whichever address they like. You join the room through an invite link, whatever address you used: the office ranking depends on no directory.

Can we run a tournament across departments?

Yes. Teams are put together freely, solo or in pairs, and a guest without an account can take a slot when someone is missing. Groups then a final bracket is the most common format at work.
